Delcy Rodríguez proposed to the AN to protect economic sovereignty

The President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, ratified the work agenda presented by the Legislative Branch for the period 2026-2031, highlighting the need for a legal framework that protects economic sovereignty and guarantees the social happiness of the Venezuelan people.

During his speech from the People’s Palace, Rodríguez described relations with the United States as a historical stain after the armed and illegitimate aggression on January 3 that ended with the kidnapping of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, and the first lady, Cilia Flores. Faced with this scenario, Rodríguez urged national unity to move towards a future of peace and development.

“Right now there is a lot of Manichaeism about Venezuela-US relations, the first thing that should be said is that there is a stain in our relations that has never occurred in our history, but it must also be highlighted that the relations, for example in economic and commercial terms, between the United States and Venezuela are not extraordinary or irregular,” he expressed.

The agreed legislative agenda prioritizes the shift towards a non-rentier economy, enhancing the capabilities of strategic sectors. Key legislative proposals include:

Towards a productive and diversified economy

Reform of the Mining Law: Aimed at attracting investments that allow the development of reserves of gold, bauxite, diamonds and rare earths for the benefit of the people.
Law of the Committee on Exports and Imports (COMEX): With the objective of diversifying non-oil exports and limiting imports to what is strictly necessary.
Socioeconomic Rights Law: An advance in the agreed price system to combat speculation and protect the income of workers.
Update of the Industrial Property Law: To encourage national technological invention and development, recognizing the fundamental role of the working class in resistance to the blockade.

International relations and global markets

The president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, clarified that, despite the attacks, Venezuela maintains its diversified economic relations. He specified that 71% of national exports are concentrated in eight countries, with the United States being the destination of 27% of that total, which demonstrates a commercial dynamic that the country will not abandon.

«Venezuela is not at war; “Venezuela is a country of peace that was attacked by a nuclear power,” stated the President in Charge, reiterating that the country’s hands are extended for economic, commercial and energy cooperation with all nations that respect its sovereignty.

He called for the “Made in Venezuela” product to be the country’s great ambassador in the world, carrying the identity of a people that does not surrender to any type of economic or military aggression.

They call on the opposition to a “new political moment” and forge national unity

During his speech, Rodríguez made an urgent call for national unity, urging opposition sectors to prioritize the country’s sovereignty over partisan differences.

In her message, the president in charge extended the direct invitation to opposition figures, among them, Timoteo Zambrano, Bernabé Gutiérrez, José Brito, Antonio Ecarri and Stalin González, whom she personally welcomed to the executive chamber.

“I want to welcome you not only to the premises of what is the Presidency of the Republic, I want to welcome you to a new political moment for our country,” he stated before the Parliament’s Board of Directors.

He emphasized that the current situation demands that national independence be placed as a superior virtue, located “above any national public power.”

Rodríguez insisted that the country’s political actions must be unified under a single criterion of territorial and sovereign defense, especially in the face of what he described as an “unprecedented political situation and very delicate moments” for the stability and peace of the Nation.

“I invite you to take advantage of this political moment for the meeting of Venezuelans, so that we know that the only north that should exist in our political actions is Venezuela,” he declared.

The president concluded by reinforcing that the common objective must be to defend the heritage of Independence of the country’s liberators, positioning this meeting between the Executive and the Legislative as the necessary step to protect the integrity of the Republic.
