“Once again, the United States government puts pressure on other countries because it believes it can isolate Venezuela. They put pressure so that airlines do not reach our territory,” said the Minister of Hydrocarbons in statements broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión.
Rodríguez thanked Russia its cooperation on transportation and announced that both governments are evaluating new joint sea routes and the possibility of increase flight frequency between Caracas and Moscow to strengthen tourist exchange.
The situation unfolded on Friday, when the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States asked airlines to exercise extreme caution when flying over Venezuela and the southern Caribbean in what it considered a “potentially dangerous” environment. Following this warning, several companies suspended scheduled flights while they analyzed the situation.
On Monday, the Venezuelan government gave airlines a deadline of 48 hours to resume operations, under the warning of withdrawing their permits. On Wednesday he made good on his threat and revoked the concessions of Iberia, TAP, Turkish Airlines, Avianca, Latam Colombia and Gol, accusing them of “join the actions of terrorism” promoted by the USA.
Given these measures, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) urged Venezuela to reconsider the cancellation of flight authorizations.
