In the region where the Cutzamala System is located, which includes part of the state of Mexico and Michoacán, the rainfall deficit in September is up to 86 percent, compared to the same month last year, reported the National Water Commission (Conagua). ).

This system, which supplies a third of the liquid to the Valley of Mexico, has a storage deficit of 20.9 percent compared to the historical average in its three reservoirs.

In the El Bosque dam, located in Michoacán, the rainfall deficit so far this month is 86 percent (compared to the same month in 2021); in the state of Mexico, in the Valle de Bravo reservoir, it is 83 percent, and in Villa Victoria, 84.

In the weekly session of the Hydraulic Works Operation Technical Committee, it was reported that due to different hydrometeorological phenomena, rains have fallen in some regions of Mexico that increase the storage of some of the 210 large dams. This contributes to improving the supply of liquid for the population, especially in Nuevo León, Conagua said.

Reversed scarcity

He added that the total storage of those 210 reservoirs, as of September 12, is slightly higher than the historical average, which means that the deficit trend that had been registered for months has already been reversed.

Conagua specified that of these dams, 41 are 100 percent full, 59 are between 75 and 100 percent, 56 are between 50 and 75 percent, and 54 are less than half full.

The rains have been recorded mainly in the northwest, south and northeast of the country, so the dams with the greatest increases in their storage are Lázaro Cárdenas, in Durango; Temazcal, in Oaxaca; La Boquilla, in Chihuahua; El Infiernillo, in Michoacán, and El Cuchillo, in Nuevo León.

tropical cyclones

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported that so far this tropical cyclone season, 11 of the 14 to 19 predicted systems have developed in the Pacific Ocean, and five of the 16 to 21 estimated in the Atlantic. .
