The defense of Jeanine Añez described this Tuesday as “fantasy” and “theater” the oral trial against the former interim president, which resumed this Monday in the framework of the so-called “coup d’état II” case. The lawyers argued that due process is not being respected and that they are seeking to conclude the litigation “in record time.”
“A trial is not being carried out in accordance with international guarantees and treaties, in accordance with the Political Constitution of the State, or in accordance with procedural norms. This is a simulation of a judicial act, what they are carrying out is a fantasy. is respecting due process,” Luis Guillén told reporters.
“They are seeking to conclude this trial quickly, in record time, as has never been seen in the history of Bolivia. Indeed, this is because there must already be a sentence,” he added.

The trial against Añez resumed this Monday after a postponement last week. The hearing lasted about 16 hours, according to the daughter of the former head of state, Carolina Ribera.
“Judicial torture! More than 16 hours of hearing where judges without legal arguments and only with political slogans take my mother to the scaffold! There is no worthwhile support, only the word of executioner judges who take advantage of the delicate health of their victim “He wrote on his social networks this Tuesday.
During the hearing, the incidents presented by the defendants against the work of the prosecutors’ commission were discussed and it was observed that the statement of the alleged victims: Evo Morales and Álvaro García Linera, had not been obtained. Guillén argued that the court failed to access the dispute funds and instead sanctioned the lawyers.

“This court had the obligation to resolve each of the requests made by the defense of both the former state president and the co-defendants, and even the requests of the accusing parties. However, they have not done so, they have omitted to pronounce themselves in these aspects”, questioned the lawyer.
“As a result of yesterday’s hearing, we have rejected incidents and exceptions, and a hearing that concluded at 1:30 in the morning, which shows that this rookie court, installed in December of last year, does not have the expertise in order to be able to adequately direct these hearings”.
The process is scheduled to continue this afternoon, starting at 2:00 p.m. In addition to Añez, members of the security forces are also accused in this case for the crimes of breach of duties and resolutions contrary to the Constitution and the laws. Both offenses add up to a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison. The Minister of Justice, Iván Lima, in recent months, estimated that justice will determine 12 years in prison for the defendants.
