The sisters of former president Pedro Castillo yesterday attended the Defense Commission of Congress. They were summoned to answer about the alleged irregular use of aircraft of the Armed forces during the administration of the former president. In separate turns, María Gloria, Irma and María Elisa received the call, in the company of their defense lawyers, from the congressman in charge of the Defense Commission, Alfredo Azurín Loayza (Somos Perú). The three accepted their constitutional right to remain silent. Azurín asked to continue with the formality, so he read the list of questions.
As of October 20, 2022, the Plenary granted the working group investigative powers to interfere in the case that concerns relatives of the ex-teacher and former officials. María Gloria was asked about her ties to Salatiel Marrufoformer adviser to Geiner Alvarado, a member of the alleged criminal organization led by his brother Pedro.
The now effective collaborator said on October 20, 2022 —according to what Azurín said— that María Gloria gave him every month, in eight installments, the sum of 60,000 soles. He also cited November 19 of that same year, the day on which he would have transferred the same amount by mobile to “distribute among all the brothers.” The references to the use of ships of the Armed Forces and the National Police of Peru were few.
The same thing happened with Irma. She was first asked if she raised funds. María Elisa was asked a little more about the subject investigated. Azurín consulted her about different trips, supposedly boarded by the relatives of the ex-president. The Defense Commission omitted to raise doubts about the emblematic case of the Armed Forces.
The team of Prosecutors against Power Corruption, chaired by prosecutor Marita Barreto, studied the case of the “supposed Lay Vásquez Castillo.” According to the Liber Center, protected by the Transparency Law, the official manifest of passengers who boarded the C-27J plane, of the Peruvian Air Force, on June 23, reported the existence of Lay. It would be Fray, a fugitive from justice for a year. Pedro Castillo publicly denied it. Newspaper reports deny it.
Lay Vasquez case
He was not the only omitted. The Republic found other similarities in the FAP C-27J plane: Fernández Díaz (nephew of the former president), Cristian Ríos Castillo, Kevin Castillo and Jon Cubas Vega (the three family). However, Fray is investigated by the Public Ministry.
