The defense of former Defense Minister Sergio Nogueira told the Supreme Court (13) on Wednesday (STF) that the military is innocent and asked the military personnel to be acquittedwhich is one of the defendants of the crucial core of the coup plot that occurred during the government of Jair Bolsonaro.
According to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), responsible for the prosecution, The general was accused of endorsing criticism of the electoral system, instigating the attempt to coup and presenting a version of the coup decree to ask for support from the Armed Forces commanders.
In the final allegations sent to the Supreme, Nogueira’s lawyers stated that he advised Bolsonaro and claimed to the former president that nothing could be done in the face of the outcome of the elections and that it was contrary to the adoption of any exception measure.
“According to the proof of the case, General Paulo Sérgio is manifestly innocent having actively acted to prevent the realization of a coup and violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law,” said the defense.
The lawyers’ demonstration is in the final allegations that were sent to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the case. The 15 -day deadline for lawyers to file their demonstrations ends today at 11:59 pm.
The allegations represent the last statement of the defendants before the trial that may condemn or acquit the accused.
In addition to Bolsonaro, six more allies must submit their allegations. Being as a whistleblower, Mauro Cid delivered the allegations last month.
