The official described the situation as “very serious.”
The Ombudsman, Iris Marín, asked the National Government declare a prison emergency in the face of the ‘pistol plan’ against Inpec dragoneers.
“We have asked to go to the state of prison emergency to address this situation. This could have, for example, budgetary implications to carry out more agile transfers and be able to make decisions more quickly, without having to go through ordinary procedures, especially budgetary ones and transfer measures”, he noted.
The official described the situation as “very serious” and warned of the need to adopt additional measures, such as the judicialization of internal acts in the different penitentiary centers.

“We have asked the Ministry of Justice to be able to resort to various measures, not only the transfer of people deprived of their liberty, but also the judicialization of internal acts in prisons through the justice sector and other actions. But this is part of a more structural crisis, in which there are not sufficiently strong resocialization processes in prisons. In addition, there is overcrowding, and all this converges in a negative way,” he stated.
The defender also assured that the entity she directs has had to suspend the usual visits that they carry out in the penitentiary centers in the middle of this ‘gun plan’.

“Several institutions have had to suspend our prison care days due to this situation,” he warned.
Marín met this Thursday with Minister Martha Carvajalino, delegate with presidential functions; the Minister of the Interior, Armando Benedetti, and the Attorney General, Luz Adriana Camargo, to talk about this and other issues, such as the mechanism of the National Commission of Security Guarantees.
