Morena vs. Piña
Senator Ricardo Monreal said that Norma Piña, the presiding judge of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), is responsible for the disagreements between the Judicial and Executive branches, which have worsened due to the discussion of judicial reform.
”The president of the Court, Minister Piña, lacked expertise, intelligence, diplomacy. For me, that was what was lacking. The disagreement began from the first days. This is a consequence of the crisis that she caused and that she now leads and directs the mobilization and the strikes,” Monreal told the media.
“It is a political strategy that is leading to dead ends and dead ends. They are violating the principle of legality. The law does not allow these crazy strikes,” he added.
For his part, the coordinator of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, Ignacio Mier, said that the strike of judges, magistrates and employees will not stop the reform of the Judicial Branch.
“There is a disagreement among some workers, which is normal, it is natural, because we must not forget that 57 percent, almost 60 percent of those who are demonstrating have a direct family and friendship relationship, a group in that almost feudal composition that the Federal Judicial Council has through magistrates and judges. And they are the ones who use uncertainty to misinform workers,” said the Morena member.
Mier asked the members of the Judiciary to review the reform so that they realize that none of their labor rights will be violated.
“They must internalize it, reflect carefully, I truly tell you, if they review the comparative table that is circulating about the opinion and the initiative and what was established in the evaluation criteria to determine who should be nominated and the preservation of rights and they really make it their own and forget about interests other than guaranteeing justice in Mexico, surely that strike will be lifted,” he said.
Judges and magistrates joined the indefinite work stoppage that the workers of the Judicial Branch have been carrying out since the first minute of Monday in protest against the reform of that Branch, which will be discussed in Congress this Monday, August 26.
In a statement, the National Association of Circuit Magistrates and District Judges of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (JUFED) indicated that, of the 1,403 judges that make up this organization, 1,202 voted “yes to suspend jurisdictional activities,” and 201 said “No.”
“This decision is of vital importance in the defense of the autonomy of the Judicial Branch of the Federation, a pillar of our democratic system and, therefore, today, workers and judges have decided to defend in unity: the Republic, judicial independence and the separation of powers to guarantee the future of future generations,” they say.
Norma Piña yesterday announced her support for the strike in the Judiciary.
