The Decentralization Commission of the Congress of the republic will debate the prediction of the bill that proposes to eliminate the positions of prefects and sub-prefects next Wednesday, November 2.
As recalled, legislators from Fuerza Popular, at the initiative of Nilza Chacón, proposed the elimination of said positions as political authorities appointed by the Ministry of Interior.
The bill 2882/CR-2022 seeks that the tasks of the regional perfects and provincial sub-prefects be reassigned to other authorities in the sector, without specifying what they might be.
Among the legislators of said caucus who signed the legislative initiative are Alejandro Aguinaga, Patricia Juárez, César Revilla, Vivian Olivos, among others.
The bill seeks to strengthen coordination and articulated work between the Ministry of the Interior and other levels of government in matters of internal order and citizen security.

Chacón indicated in the document that the prefects and sub-prefects have the role of making a “parallel job” that of the local authorities in the places where they were elected.
Likewise, in its participation in the regional citizen security committees and in civil defense and disaster risk management actions. This overlapping of activities creates confusion between the powers of each official and hinders the actions of mayors or governors.
Finally, the project says that maintaining the prefects and sub-prefects supposes an expense of 67 million soles per year for the maintenance of the aforementioned political authorities.
