After several months in which the cases of covid-19 had decreased significantly in the Dominican Republic, in recent weeks, the Ministry of Public Health has reported a marked increase in people who have tested positive for the virus.
According to the latest bulletin from the Ministry of Public Health, in the Dominican Republic there are 1,947 active cases of COVID-19 with a positivity of 5.79% in the last four weeks.
The arrival of December, the month in which people tend to attend family activities more frequently or participate in massive gatherings, has brought concern to many people, who understand that the increase in covid-19 cases before the last month of December year, it was a warning for the Government of the Republic to take preventive measures during December.

Officially there will be no restrictions at Christmas
The president of the Republic, Luis Abinader, He said that he practically made it clear that there will be no covid-19 restrictions this Christmas, since he indicated that this will be the first since the post-pandemic, in which families will be able to go without masks.

“We have the first Christmas in which we can go out without a mask, you have to take care of yourself, but now without a mask, we can laugh, we can be close, we had many years that we could not do it, and that is why we have to enjoy it,” said the President Luis Abinader in the framework of the inauguration of Villa Navidad.
As of today, a total of 651,906 positive cases of covid-19 have been confirmed in the Dominican Republic.
The authorities assure that all the variants are derived from omicron, but they are classified by subvariants that are recombining.

They insist that the recommendation to the population is to return to the use of masks, increase hygiene and complete the vaccination scheme.
