For the Nina family, the end of the year parties will never be the same again because one of their loved ones is already with them more. “My dad died three weeks ago because he didn’t get the vaccine. We insist a lot on him, but he has trusted himself, ”said Javier, one of the three children.

According to the head of the Epidemiology Unit of the La Paz Departmental Health Service (Sedes), Miguel Quispe, deaths from Covid-19 have increased in recent weeks and “this situation is particularly linked to the fact that people were not vaccinated” .

Quispe explained to Página Siete that 90% of the people who died from Covid-19 in recent weeks “were not vaccinated.”

With a similar stance, the manager of the Santa Cruz Headquarters Epidemiology Unit, Carlos Hurtado, reported that, of the nine people who died from covid on Sunday, “seven did not receive the vaccine.”

Hurtado explained that in week 49 – which ended on Saturday – there were 42 deaths, 16 more than the previous week, that is, an average of six per day.

According to Hurtado, of the deaths from coronavirus that were registered in recent weeks, “90% of the people who lost their lives did not have a single vaccine or had only one dose.”

Quispe explained that the people who did not receive the vaccine are those who – currently – enter intensive care or are in a serious situation of the disease.

“Last week we had three young people and older adults who are in critical condition and were admitted to the Medicalized Hospital, located in Alto Obrajes. All were transferred to the Hospital de Clínicas and coincidentally all did not receive the vaccine “, said the representative of the La Paz headquarters.

Quispe argued that it is known that 90% of patients who come to intensive care at the Hospital de Clínicas did not receive the dose. “The same panorama is lived in the hospitals of the North and the South of the city of El Alto,” he said.

The head of Epidemiology of the La Paz headquarters indicated that the remaining 10% who die from covid are part of the group of people who received the vaccine, but had a double risk factor. “In other words, they are older adults with underlying diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity,” he added.

The head of the Beni Sedes Epidemiology Unit, Antonio Castro, said that in his region, deaths are “very few”, but most of those killed by covid “did not receive a vaccine.”

“Although we do not have patients admitted to intensive care, those with mild or moderate disease are people who did not receive the vaccine or have only one dose,” said Castro.

Faced with this situation, the health authorities of the different departments and the Minister of Health himself agreed that vaccination is very important.

The Minister of Health, Jeyson Auza, asked people to take extreme biosecurity measures and especially to go to the immunization centers because vaccines are available to the entire population ”.

“It has been seen that after six months of vaccination immunity decreases, so it is extremely important that they receive the third doses, especially the elderly and those with underlying diseases,” said the head of the Unit for Epidemiology of Sedes La Paz.

Hurtado explained that, despite the fact that Santa Cruz is experiencing an epidemiological storm, people are still not aware, they are not vaccinated and they are not protecting themselves. “He continues to act irresponsibly,” he said.

Auza announced that this month more than 1.9 million Modern vaccine will arrive in the country, in addition to one million doses of AstraZeneca through negotiations with the Government of Argentina. “Only by receiving the vaccine can meetings be held for the end of the year parties. It is with the collaboration of the people ”, he added.

Since last Friday, Bolivia has already vaccinated children from five to 11 years old. From that day until yesterday, 12,296 children received the dose.

Auza said the immunization rate improved. “There were departments where one child or five were vaccinated on the first day.”
