The Navy Secretary’s plane that crashed on Monday near Galveston, Texas, lost communication a few minutes before impact, and for a moment it was thought to have landed, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo revealed yesterday.
During the morning, he regretted the events and sent condolences, while indicating that at that time it was known that of the eight people traveling on the aircraft, five died, two were injured and one was missing (hours later the Navy reported that she was found dead).
He explained that it was a humanitarian flight that transported a child and his family so that the child could be treated at a hospital specialized in body burns, located in that city in the United States.
“Unfortunately, he was a minor… very sad. The Navy helps a lot in humanitarian actions. They were taking a case from Yucatán to Galveston. Doctors, nurses and Navy personnel, and relatives of the child, went.”
He noted that an investigation will be carried out to find out the causes of the mishap, but the black box needs to be recovered to know precisely why it collapsed. “The investigation is going to be done and all the family members are being cared for.”
Since the accident occurred, he said, the head of the Navy, Raymundo Pedro Morales, communicated with the Mexican Foreign Ministry and United States authorities, from whom he received support.
The Navy reported that the sixth victim of the air accident was located and that the two survivors are stable and receiving medical attention. He expressed “deep regret for the death of six of the eight people involved in this unfortunate event.”
The Navy indicated that with the support of local authorities “the body of the person pending location was located; unfortunately he was found lifeless.”
Likewise, he highlighted the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston and other local authorities of the United States.
