The rise in the prices of gasoline and diesel began to cause strikes last week that have been intensifying, for which the Government of Peru, through a supreme decree published on Sunday, announced the temporary abolition of this tax as part of the agreements reached with the affected associations of carriers and farmers.

“Finding ourselves in a crisis situation due to external factors, we call on the fuel distribution companies to join efforts to transfer this exemption from the Selective Consumption Tax to the prices offered to consumers,” said the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in a statement.

The institution reported that prices at the Petroperú plant, at the wholesale level, registered a drop in the price of Gasoline 90, which has gone from 19.01 soles to 15.61 soles (a decrease of 17.9%) and of Gasoline 84 from 18.68 soles to 14.71 (fall of 21.3%).

The decrease in the price of diesel B5 S-50 UV was also reported, which fell from 15.38 soles to 13.62 (11.4%) and of Diesel B5 S-50, which went from 20.45 soles to 18.69 ( 8.6%).

These reductions in the amount of fuel will be appreciated at Peruvian gas stations in the coming hours because, first, wholesalers must reduce prices and then it will be transferred to the price paid by citizens.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Aníbal Torres, asked the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining to “immediately verify compliance with this provision at the country’s taps.”

CARRIER PROTESTS

Three people deceased, including a minor, and more than 20 detainees is the balance of the strike that the unions of transporters and farmers in the central Peruvian department of Junín complied with for seven days, according to the Government.

“The police have managed very carefully, however, three deaths have been recorded, but not by the police, but by traffic accidents and a child fell into the river,” Interior Minister Alfonso Chávarry said yesterday.

These unions began an indefinite strike on March 28 in several regions of the country due to the rise in fuel prices and requested a dialogue table with the Government to achieve their reduction.

Also this Sunday, during a ceremony held at the Government Palace in Lima, President Pedro Castillo recalled that the rise in fuel prices “is not the fault of the Government”, but is due to external factors such as the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. .

“This measure, I am sure, will help the transport sector and thereby avoid the increase in prices of basic necessities that has been affecting Peruvian families,” he declared in reference to the exemption from fuel taxes, which was It will last until June 30.
