The Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) said this Tuesday that the death of the political leader Orlando Jorge Mera it has been devastating.
Jorge Mera was a member of the executive management of the political entity and at the time of his death he held the position of Minister of Environment and Natural Resources.
He also served as a political delegate before the Central Electoral Board (JCE) of the political organization.
“Orlando Jorge Mera played a leading role in the 2020 elections in defending the victory of the PRM, assuming a firm and respectful political position”highlights a press release from the PRM.
The president of PRM, José Ignacio Paliza said: “Yesterday (Sunday) we planted a tree together in the heights of Valle Nuevo, we drank coffee and dreamed of the future of the land that we love so much. I will miss you so much, dear friend. Peace”.
While the general secretary of the political party, Carolina Mejía: “Orlando was a human being of peace, noble and gentle; excellent father and brother, a dear friend, who always looked for consensus and unity”.
“Overwhelmed by a feeling of deep sorrow for the unexpected departure of my friend Orlando Jorge, RIP, my thoughts are at this moment with Doña Patricia, Orlando, Patricia Victoria and Dilia Leticia. See you always mate!” said Eddy Olivares.
From his side, Roberto Fulcar: “I am immensely pained by the sad loss of our friend and colleague Orlando Jorge Meraa peaceful and decent human being fallen today at his job, the Ministry of Environment. Our condolences to their families. Peace to his soul!”
Funeral honors at the PRM National House
Elizabeth Mateo, national secretary of Communications of the political organization, informed that a guard of honor will be made and the remains of Jorge Mera will be exhibited tomorrow from 1:00 in the afternoonat the National House of PRM so that the militancy and leadership can say goodbye to the endearing political leader.
Brief historical account of his life and achievements
Jorge Mera was born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. He is the son of former president Salvador Jorge Blanco and Asela Altagracia Mera Checo.
The PRM described to Orlando Jorge Mera as an “outstanding lawyer, politician, university professor, doctrinaire and defender of the environment of our country, occupying different positions in the Public Administration”.
He dedicated his best years to public practice, playing a significant role in the struggle for institutionality and transparency, serving as general secretary of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) and founding member of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), organization of which he was also a political delegate before the Central Electoral Board (JCE).
He also highlighted that Jorge Mera played stellar roles in the fight against corruption and the end of impunity, “two of the essential pillars of the campaign carried out by the PRM.
