On December 25, the death of Nile Burgapresident of the company Frigoincain circumstances that have generated suspicions of a possible crime. César Euscátegui, the businessman’s lawyer, stated that there are indications that his death was not a voluntary act, pointing out irregularities in the documents found after the death.
In a statement to RPP, Euscátegui announced that the supposed manuscript that Burga had left “saying goodbye” was actually a document intended for the Prosecutor’s Office. “For me, a crime has been committed. This was not a farewell letter, but a document that he was going to deliver through his lawyer to denounce manipulation against the company,” he explained.
The text, partially transcribed by Burga’s partner, contained a direct accusation: “I, Nilo Burga, am addressing you, representative of the Prosecutor’s Office, for manipulation against the company.” This statement fuels doubts about the circumstances of his death and the context of previous threats.
Euscátegui revealed that the Burga couple testified before the National Police of Peru. According to her, Burga showed her an intimidating message that said: “You are next.” In addition, the lawyer pointed out that his client feared for his safety and specifically mentioned Noemí Alvarado, a former Frigoinca collaborator, and her close environment.
Who is Noemí Alvarado?
Noemí Alvarado, a former Frigoinca worker, is a key figure in the case. Between 2021 and 2023, he reported that the company distributed horse meat as beef in products destined for the state Qaliwarma program, which resulted in the poisoning of numerous minors in Cabana, Puno.
Alvarado’s accusations increased pressure on Burga, who was being investigated for alleged bribery of officials related to the program. His testimony before the Prosecutor’s Office could implicate more people in an alleged corruption network.
