The Minister of Social Development, Martín Lema, announced this Monday the 12th the incorporation of interpreters to advise deaf women, in the hotline for victims of gender violence. In addition, he witnessed the inauguration of the building works that will provide greater accessibility to the entrance to the Mides headquarters and whose investment reaches about 9,000,000 pesos.
As part of the activities to be carried out in December for the Month of Persons with Disabilities, Lema reported that the free telephone line 0800 4141 now provides care to deaf women who are victims of domestic violence. “It is one more step to present greater accessibility in different characteristics and modalities”, she expressed.
In this sense, the director of Disability of the National Secretariat of Care of Mides, Karen Sass, added that this telephone service, dependent on the National Institute for Women (Inmujeres), has an interpreter available as of this Monday, who through video call , connects with the 0800 operators to provide advice to deaf women, under the same conditions as the rest of the users.
The service operates from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and has six interpreters. In order for the services to be accessible, they have to attend to all the women, affirmed the hierarch. In addition, he reported that in December Mides develops more than 45 activities throughout Uruguay with themes related to inclusive education and employment.
New works improve accessibility in Mides
As part of its strategy to improve user accessibility to its headquarters, the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) made improvements to its building infrastructure.
The works were carried out through an agreement with the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) and it is very important because it will facilitate the entrance to the territorial office in the main building, in order to evacuate the different queries, indicated Lema, in dialogue with Presidential Communication .
The works include a ramp to facilitate the entry of people with disabilities and the construction of two accessible bathrooms.
The minister toured this Monday the work carried out on the infrastructure of the central building, accompanied by authorities from the portfolio and by the director of the National Directorate of Architecture of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP), Santiago Borsari.
The works began in early January and the amount of the investment is around 9,000,000 pesos, reported Lema. He announced that the analysis of a second stage to carry out new improvements at the ministerial headquarters will begin shortly.
