DC Nursing College demands freedom of Yanny González and condemns persecution of Grimio

They denounce that González’s arrest represents a serious violation of his human and union rights that, in addition, is registered within a persecution pattern against the nursing guild


The Nursing College of the Capital District (DC) rejected this July 22 the arbitrary detention of Yanny González, representative of the guild in Barinas, and condemned the persecution against the union leadership of Venezuelan nursing.

“Sometimes we are afraid to raise my voice, but being silent at the injustice committed by arbitrarily depriving my colleague Yanny González, president of the Barinas State Nursing College, goes against my principles,” wrote Ana Rosario Contreras, president of the Nursing College of the Capital District, who shared in his account in X a statement signed by the Board of Directors of the institution.

In the document, they assured that González’s arrest represents a serious violation of his human and union rights that, in addition, is registered within a pattern of systematic persecution against the nursing guild, whose only “crime” has been to raise his voice in defense of decent working conditions, fair salary and respect for the profession.

Similarly, the Board of Directors requested that the harassment and persecution against Maritza Moreno, president of the Caroní Nursing College.

Yanny González was arrested on the afternoon of this Tuesday, July 22 at the headquarters of the Barinas Nursing College. The Human Rights of Los Llanos (Fundehullan) said that “a mixed commission of state security forces” arrested the nurse around 2:30 pm

So far, the reasons why Yanny González was arrested. However, last May, the nurse denounced that from the Regional Health Directorate in Barinas they were pressing them to “force them to join Adam Chávez’s political campaign,” who was elected in the regional elections.
