Within the framework of a new commemoration of the Day of the Young Combatanta group of unknown individuals set fire to two RED system buses in the Villa Francia sector, Estación Central district.
Through social networks, Carabineros Prefectura Central reported that “hooded men set fire to a public transport bus, cutting off traffic in the 5 de Abril sector with Las Rejas. Prefer alternative routes and drive with caution.”

In parallel, blocks further up, on 5 de Abril with Manuel Rivas, a group of individuals began to launch incendiary devices at the Police Public Order Control Personnel (COP), forcing the officers to use deterrent means.

As a result of these events, the First Corporal of the Carabineros, Eduardo Alexis Báez Tapia, was injured after receiving a ballistic impact in the gluteus area, for which he was transferred to the Carabineros Hospital out of life risk.
The police officer was shot on April 5 with Rivas Vicuña, in the Villa Francia sector. He was traveling in an armored vehicle when the tires lost grip due to the presence of oil on the road, so he ended up colliding with a tree. As he got out of the vehicle, he was attacked with shots, while other subjects threw incendiary devices at the police car.

Minutes later, the general director of the Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez, came to visit the injured police force. He then referred to the specific event, calling it a “vile attack.”
“In the attack in Villa Francia, the policemen defended themselves and used their firearms, and thank God, and luckily, we only have to regret the less serious injuries to the corporal. The shot policeman received a vile attack with weapons of fire and incendiaries, there was an intention to kill those who were in the vehicle,” he said.

The Presidential Delegate of the RM, Constanza Martínez, also arrived at the hospital of the institution, and emphasized that “the attack that Corporal Báez has just suffered is completely reprehensible. The Government shows its concern and affection and respect for the Carabineros.”
“We believe that violence, confrontation and the commission of crimes are not the way for a day like today, which should make us reflect and unite as a country. In the face of violent and criminal acts, we are going to prosecute those responsible,” added Martínez .
On the other hand, a third bus was confirmed on fire on Avenida Américo Vespucio with Recoleta, in the Huechuraba commune. The Santiago Norte Prefecture reported that subjects “set public transport bus on fire at the intersection of Avenida Américo Vespucio with Recoleta. Drive with caution and pay attention to traffic conditions.”

Barricades
In the commune of Peñalolén, incendiary barricades were produced in the sector of Avenida Grecia with Tobalaba, near Lo Hermida. Carabineros Prefectura Oriente reported that “Public Order Control Personnel (COP) make use of their deterrent means before the launch of incendiary objects and fireworks, in the Grecia sector with Tobalaba. Travel through alternative routes and with caution.”
