Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe leaves a spill of 20,000 million pesos

An economic engine in figures

The pilgrimage of approximately 12 million people to the Basilica of Guadalupe will benefit key sectors such as commerce, food, transportation and hospitality. Retail will see an increase in the sale of candles, religious items and souvenirs, while the food and beverage sector will respond to the high demand for typical food and services in areas near Tepeyac.

Transportation services, both public and private, will also have an increase due to the movement of pilgrims, and the hotel industry will register higher occupancy, mainly in accommodations near the celebration area.

Compared to previous years, the economic output projected for this year shows notable growth. In 2019, the celebration generated more than 10,000 million pesos, while in 2023 it reached 15,500 million. This increase of 22.5% reflects the relevance of the holiday in both religious and economic terms.

A significant cultural and economic event

Octavio de la Torre highlighted the role of these dates not only as a religious event, but also as an engine for the national economy. “The Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe is not only a cultural event, but also an economic engine that strengthens commerce and services in the country,” he stated.

The leader called on merchants and service providers to provide a quality experience to visitors, emphasizing that this is an opportunity to strengthen the local and national economy.
