This afternoon, the Indigenous Affairs Commission, chaired by Deputy Ricardo Santos, adopted in its ordinary session, the project of Law 189, which declares October 12 of every year, Day of the Resistance of the Original Peoples.
Before starting the session, he was sworn in by the president of the Commission, Deputy Adán Bejarano, as Commissioner for Indigenous Affairs.
During this session, other issues were also discussed, including the project 178, by which the symbols of the Ngäbe-Buglé region are adopted, which seeks to highlight the flag of the Mama Tata Church, as a symbol of the region.
Also, the report of the subcommittee designated for the analysis of Bill 447 was approved, which establishes the Agricultural Guarantee Fund for indigenous regions and collective lands, presented by Deputy Adán Bejarano.
The purpose of this bill is to achieve equity in the granting of agricultural credits to native peoples, given that the political-administrative organization of said areas prevents the granting of property titles individually to its inhabitants; therefore, they cannot be used as support when applying for an agricultural loan.
They also decided to suspend the discussion of Bill 682, which establishes the celebration of the Yar Burba Mola Iba festival, in the month of August every year, in the Guna Yala, Kuna de Madugandí, Kuna Wargandí and Takargunyala territories, based in Internal Regulation 104.
