As a result of the death of the prosecutor against organized crime Marcelo Pecci, agents of the Public Ministry will protest today in front of the headquarters of the State Attorney General’s Office. The mobilization will later move to the Pantheon of Heroes.
“For honor and courage” is called the protest that, precisely, will remember the integrity with which the assassinated prosecutor faced his investigations, despite the precariousness that the officials of the Prosecutor’s Office must face, announced Belinda Bobadilla, vice president of the Association of Tax Agents.
The mechanical damage and the lack of equipment of the Public Ministry mobiles to carry out procedures, in addition to the systematic cuts to the funds destined to the Public Ministry, make up the claims that the prosecutors will point out in front of the Pantheon of Heroes.
In addition to budget cuts, the lack of security also afflicts prosecutorial agents who often must “lead investigative processes” against criminal organizations, according to the Association of Fiscal Agents.
Only in specific cases and certain periods, once threats are verified, the agents of the Public Ministry can be endowed with the protection of police agents, assured the union.
Along with officials from the Public Ministry, the class of 1995 from Colegio San José, former classmates of Marcelo Pecci, will join the mobilizations in front of the Pantheon of Heroes.
The graduates called on groups of former students, current student parents, all members of the institution’s educational community and the general public to join the march to honor the life of the prosecutor and repudiate the cowardly attack that “skewed his life.” reads the statement issued by the organizers of the activity.
In the same way, it is expected that the fans of the Guaraní Club will accompany the mobilization, taking into account that the prosecutor against organized crime was a great fan of the aurinegro.

PARAGUAY IS THE
CHALLENGE
María Esther Roa, president of the Coordinator of Lawyers of Paraguay and the organization Somos Anticorrupción, lamented the tragic attack that skewed the life of the prosecutor against organized crime Marcelo Pecci and, at the same time, blamed the State Attorney General’s Office for the situation of “abandonment” in which Paraguay finds itself immersed.
“They (the prosecutors) cannot go out now to claim the lack of security and cuts, when it is the first thing that the head of the Prosecutor’s Office, Sandra Quiñónez, should have denounced, at a time when they even lacked sheets to print resolutions. Her management is largely responsible for the conditions in which the country’s justice finds itself, ”she sentenced.
On the other hand, the activist celebrated the initiative of the educational community of Colegio San José and pointed out that, now, the great challenge is to awaken all the citizens of the country to rise up against organized crime, corruption, drug trafficking, injustice and other evils that corrode the governmental structure of Paraguay.
“Many times, people with fewer resources cannot move because they are concentrated struggling to survive. On the other hand, people with high non-resources do not interfere because they already have basic needs such as health and education, of quality, guaranteed. To wake up all of Paraguay, good social leaders are required,” he said.
Along the same lines, Roa added that citizens do not attend the protests either for fear of justice, that they use their power as a “tool of oppression.” The activist recalled that she was prosecuted for participating in protests during the pandemic and that, later, she was dismissed due to the irrationality of the process.
