David Luiz begins a new stage at 37 years old

Fortaleza announced this Monday the signing of the Brazilian defender David Luiz, former Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain player, with a contract that commits him until December 2026, with the possibility of renewal for another year.

The center back was free on the market, after having finished his time at Flamengo, and at the age of 37 he arrives at the Ceará team, which he chose over other proposals from Brazilian and international clubs, including the Greek Olympiacos.

“He had other proposals with much higher economic conditions, but he chose Fortaleza and understands that our project has more to do with his professional aspirations, life values,” the club’s general director stated in a note. Marcelo Paz.

In this way, David Luiz closes his cycle at Flamengo, a club where he played for the last three seasons and won a Copa Libertadores and two Brazilian Cups.

His time in Europe

Before landing in Brazil, David Luiz spent 14 years in European football, passing through the Benficawhere he was loaned in 2007 and later acquired by the Portuguese club.

In 2011 he reached Chelseawhere he won the Champions League in 2012. He also played in PSG (2014-2016). again at Chelsea (2016-2019) and Arsenal (2019-2021) before signing for Flamengo.

The Brazilian represented the ‘Canarinha’ in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and in the 2015 Copa América.
