David Cervantes, in charge of reconstruction after the 2017 earthquakes, passed away

David Cervantes Peredo, Undersecretary of Territorial Planning of the Secretariat of Territorial and Urban Agrarian Development (Sedatu), passed away this Saturday June 18 at the age of 62.

Through his social networks, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was the first to report the death of the person in charge of the National Commission for Reconstructiontafter the earthquakes of September 2017.

“I am very sorry for the death of our colleague David Cervantes Peredo, undersecretary of Sedatu. We met in 1988 and since then we have worked together for the transformation of Mexico and for the benefit of our people, ”explained the president through his Twitter account.

“We lost a public servant with deep convictions and unquestionable honesty. He leaves us the example of him. I hug his family and friends, ”added the president.



In a statement, the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) recalled that David Cervantes worked with non-governmental organizations on land use planning, but also had a career in the legislative field.

“He also served as a federal deputy in the LXII Legislature for the 30th district of Tlalpan and was a local deputy for the 40th district in the Legislative Assembly during the VII Legislature,” he mentioned. Sedatu in his information on the death of Cervantes.

It should be remembered that the official, with academic training in architecture, was part of the General Directorate of the Institute of living place between 2000 and 2005.

In his work as in charge of the reconstructionafter the earthquakes of 2017 and 2018, Cervantes worked to support more than 58,000 families from eight states in the country who had damage to their households for these natural phenomena.

Officials join in condolences

Cabinet members, industry living place and various officials have joined in the condolences for the death of David Cervantes.

The head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed her solidarity with family and friends of Cervantes Peredo and remembered him as an official of great convictions.

“The departure of an endearing colleague hurts a lot. Simple, hard-working, honest, with great convictions and great thoughts. A human being and an exemplary fighter. Goodbye dear @DavidRCervantes”, the head of government wrote on her Twitter account.

For his part, Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, lamented the death of one of his collaborators during his tenure as head of the Mexico City government, between 2006 and 2012.

“I deeply regret the death of David Cervantes Peredo, colleague, friend and former collaborator during my tenure at the head of Mexico City. Hug family and friends. Rest in peace. We will miss you David,” Ebrard said.

For his part, Carlos Martínez, general director of Infonavit, pointed out the relevance of Cervantes’ work for the development of living place.

“What profound sadness the departure of David Cervantes. Extraordinary person and official. He was always our guide to set the course for the policy of living place. Committed man who we will miss. Rest in peace”, mentioned Martínez Velázquez.

Organizations and agencies such as the Ministry of Economy, the National Chamber of Industry for the Development and Promotion of living place (Canadevi), the Morena Party, among other collaborators of the Mexico City government, state officials and more, expressed their condolences.
