David Arosemena indicates that the law for the comprehensive protection of children’s rights must be regulated

A few days ago, President Laurentino Cortizo, sanctioned the law that creates the System of Guarantees and Comprehensive Protection of the Rights of Children, Childhood and Adolescence, which establishes a mechanism for the prevention of any type of violence against minors.

The SOS Children’s Villages advocacy coordinator and expert on children’s issues, David Arosemena, referred to said law, stating that it is a paradigm that allows us at a given moment to legalize rights.

He added that there are already actions established in the Penal Code with respect to acts of violence and exploitation against children.

“The law of comprehensive protection includes, works the approach from prevention with families and communities, to prevent children in these sectors from being at risk and violation of their rights,” he explained.

He asserted that this law “is a framework law that allows us to establish laws, programs and projects through the reorganization of State institutions whose function is to guarantee children’s rights.”

Arosemena specified that after this sanction, the law must be regulated. “State institutions must begin to make that necessary transformation, whether it is to assume infrastructure or necessary resources that are required, and that guarantee the rights of the child,” she said.
