It was learned that Virginia Celli Olivo was engaged in English and Spanish translation and interpretation activities in Florida

Virginia Celli Olivo, daughter of the former president of the Latin American Parliament and leader of the Democratic Action party, Humberto Celli, died on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 5, in the United States after a truck ran her over when she was trying to help a turtle cross the street.

Celli Olivo had stopped her vehicle in an area called Curry Ford and put on the hazard lights to assist the turtle when the driver, identified as Miguel Valero González, hit her and fled the scene.

Several politicians, including those of the two new factions of Democratic Action, mourned the death of Virginia Celli through their social networks. Henry Ramos Allup, Bernabé Gutiérrez, Luis Emilio Rondón, as well as organizations and institutions such as the National Assembly elected in December 2015, expressed their condolences.

The Orlando Highway Police said on their social networks that thanks to a witness it was possible to locate the truck that hit Celli Olivo, since he had fled after the incident. The “good Samaritan”, as that security body qualifies him, witnessed what happened and reported to the emergency line and that is why they managed to capture the person responsible for his death.

According to New HeraldValero González admitted his crime and said that he had used marijuana that same day.

It was learned that Virginia Celli Olivo had been engaged in English and Spanish translation and interpretation activities in Florida in recent years.

The spokeswoman for that security body, Lieutenant Kim Montes, said that “many people are animal lovers. They want to help, that’s their first instinct, but we want people to know it’s dangerous to stop for an animal on the road as you can put yourself and others in your car at risk.”
