On September 21 and under the supervision of the Ombudsman’s Office, elections will be held to choose the official representative of the victims or those affected by the massive poisoning by diethylene glycol; before the Monitoring Commission, attached to the Ministry of Health.
The National Evaluation Commission of the Ombudsman’s Office arranged on June 17 for the opening of the electoral process with the convocation of all duly certified victims or affected parties; from June 20 to 24, these can be verified in the electoral register, which will be available on the website www.defensoria.gob.pa.
The presentation, verification and publication of applications is planned for the month of July; the electoral campaign, the draw of the ballot boxes and the publication of the proposals of the aspirants. The electoral campaign will close on September 18.
According to the Ombudsman, on the day of the election, the voting tables will be located at the main headquarters in the capital city and the 14 Regional Offices of the Ombudsman at the national level, these will have a schedule from 8:00 am to 2:00 p.m. 00 pm, the certification of the results once the votes have been counted will be delivered to the Ministry of Health; subsequently, the Ombudsman’s Office will proclaim the winning list, made up of a principal and his alternate.
Victims or affected persons who are certified by the provisions of Law No. 20 of March 26, 2013 and its subsequent amendments may apply. To vote, the requirements are to be a certified victim also by this law and to have a valid ID.
