Danubio’s return to the Uruguayan First Division has not been made to wait. The historic club Montevideo, who descended for the third time in its history to the second echelon of soccer in the country last year, has managed to take a season to return to the highest level after winning in the final of the play-off for promotion 0-1 against Defensor Sporting.
In this way, La Franja achieves that its third path through the Uruguayan second division is solved with a single season to return to the place that the club deserves. In total, Danubio has been for seven courses in this championship, three consecutive from 1944 to 1947, and the three descents in 1960, 1970 and 2021.
Next season, the club will complete its 72nd campaign in the First Division, contesting things once again in the highest tournament in the country and trying to continue feeding its history.
The agonizing end of the descent on the penultimate day of the 2020 season has led to a promotion in November 2021 that tastes like glory for the team led by Jorge Fossati. Now, it will be their turn to establish themselves again so that what happens will not be a fall into hell again, although they can return consecutively to touch the ascent with their fingers.
