The former president of the Republic and president of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Danilo Medina, described it as a «recoil» any attempt to remove the layoffa right that protects workers when concluding their contracts.
“Eliminating unemployment would mean going backwards in rights acquired by workers. That is one of the reasons why we did not allow this reform during my government; We could not touch fundamental benefits for employees,” said Medina when approached by journalists during a meeting with PLD leaders in San Cristóbal.
The former president made reference to the ongoing discussions in the National Congress about a possible labor reform, warning that the rights acquired by workers must be preserved.
“The workers They do not want to lose what they have achieved with so much effort, and that must be respected,” he stressed.
Contact with the bases
Medina also highlighted that together with the general secretary of the PLD, Johnny Pujolsand other members of the Political Committee, are touring the provinces to strengthen contact with the party’s bases, as mandated by the recently concluded 10th Congress of the PLD.

“We are in San Cristóbal today (yesterday), on Saturday we will be in San Pedro de Macorís and next Thursday in Monseñor Nouel. We want to get even closer to the party’s militancy throughout the national territory,” he said.
The political leader reaffirmed his commitment to keeping the PLD connected to the needs of its members and prepared to face the political challenges that lie ahead.
