Danilo Aguirre Sequeira, the OIJ “suspect” in the crime against Joao Maldonado who nine days after the revelation remains silent. Why doesn’t he come forward?

Journalist Danilo Aguirre, identified as a “suspect” of the attack against Joao Maldonado, calls the OIJ version “madness”

Nine days have passed since on September 27, the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) of Costa Rica published a series of videos and photographs in which Nicaraguan journalist Danilo Aguirre Sequeira appears as one of the “suspects” of participating in the shooting attack against the opponent Joao Maldonado and, despite the fact that the indicated communicator declared himself “surprised” and promised to give his version to clarify this accusation, until now he has not shown his face.

The OIJ, the Costa Rican body in charge of investigating crimes in the neighboring country, released photographs and videos in which six suspects appear to have carried out the second shooting attack against Maldonado and his partner Nadia Robleto, who accompanied him in the vehicle in which they mobilized on January 10 of this year in San José, Costa Rica. One of those suspects is Danilo Aguirre.

Journalistic investigations have established that precisely Aguirre Sequeira was one of the last people with whom the opponent met moments before the assassination attempt.

Suspicion arouses suspicion against the communicator identified as a suspect by the fact that, according to Costa Rican immigration records, Aguirre had not entered that country legally, which suggests that he entered through non-authorized points, that is, on the days of the attack. was illegally in Costa Rican territory.

After being identified among the suspects, several media outlets contacted journalist Aguirre to respond to the OIJ’s allegations, and his response was to declare himself “surprised” by the matter that links him to the attempted murder of Maldonado.

He confirmed to Confidencial that he is indeed the one who appears in the video released by the OIJ, but asked that they contact him “later” to give an explanation, since at that time he justified himself with the pretext that he had to protect himself for his security.

He told Nicaragua Investiga, briefly, that he was “surprised… Yes, I assure you that there is enormous confusion regarding me.”

While he told 100% Noticias through a WhatsApp message that he would be in a safe place and give his version, after reiterating that he was surprised to appear among the suspects in the attack against Maldonado.

«I find myself looking for a safe place for myself. It’s crazy what’s happening, I’ll call you as soon as I feel safe. I ask you to be patient, and not take these words as answers. Just give me time and we’ll talk,” the journalist told 100% Noticias.

He promised all the media outlets that contacted him his version to clarify the serious allegations that link him to the second assassination attempt against the exiled opposition leader in Costa Rica, however, to date he has not said anything.

Given such silence, and given the seriousness of the matter, since it involves his participation in an attack that would have been ordered by the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship, Article 66 has offered Aguirre Sequeira the program In Contact so that he can clarify what he considers he should clarify, and in addition, this week he was contacted again to say if he will finally give his version of why he appears in those videos and answer some questions for public opinion.

For this reason, this media outlet sent a series of five questions to Aguirre, but he did not respond.

The questions that Aguirre Sequeira did not want to answer

1. What were you doing in Costa Rica on January 10, 2024, the day the attack against Joao Maldonado and his partner Nadia Robleto occurred, and what were you doing in the hotel where Joao was minutes before the shooting attack?

2. What relationship did you have with Joao Maldonado and why had you not told the Costa Rican authorities that you were meeting with him minutes before the attack?

3. According to your immigration records in Costa Rica, there is no evidence that you had entered this country legally on that date, therefore, it is assumed that you did so through non-authorized points, but in the same way you returned to Nicaragua, Because?

4. The OIJ of Costa Rica presents a video with your image and they openly point you out as “suspicious.” Do you have any interest in clarifying that situation, or not?

5. Days before the attack, Joao Maldonado reported that there were threats against him and that he had warnings that he would be eliminated. He directly accused the Nicaraguan Army and the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega. He said there were agents of the regime operating in Costa Rica. If now you are involved in this, public opinion relates you as an agent of the Army or the FSLN. What do you have to say about it?

A reasonable amount of time was waited for the accused to respond but he never did.

Note: Wait tomorrow for the boarding of Article 66 on the subject with the OIJ, which has not reported on the progress of the investigations, nor has it said whether it has already established contacts with the Nicaraguan Police or with Interpol to find out about Danilo Aguirre, given that he is within the country.
