He former mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quinteroconfirmed that this week he will register a committee of signatures with the National Registry of Civil Status to aspire to the Presidency in 2026.
“Today I will register my committee of signatures to the Presidency of the Republic: Total Reset Against Narcotics and the Corrupt. It will be an independent campaign, without parties or political bosses“said the candidate.
(Further: Iván Cepeda remains the candidate of the Historical Pact after winning a partisan consultation).
The decision comes after his withdrawal from the consultation process promoted by the Historical Pact, in which he was going to participate together with the Senator Iván Cepeda and the former Minister of Health Carolina Corcho. His departure, he assures, was due to the legal risk that could disqualify him from participating in the Frente Amplio consultation, in March 2026.

To validate the candidacy by signatures, Quintero must collect signatures equivalent to 3% of the valid votes in the 2022 presidential elections (approximately 630,000 signatures) and meet the established deadline until December 17, 2025. However, the number of signatures should be double considering that many may not be approved.
(Further: The gaps that worry the regions with the reform of the Competition Law).
Once presented, the National Registry of Civil Status will have until January 21, 2026 to verify its validity and determine if the requirements demanded in the Resolution 6064 of May 22, 2025.
Results of the Pact in the consultation
The Historical Pact consultation, held to elect its presidential candidate, had the participation of more than 2.7 million voters, who elected Senator Iván Cepeda, who received 1,533,284 votes (65.13%) with 99.04% of the tables counted.
Followed by him was the former Minister of Health, Carolina Corcho, with 676,110 votes (28.72%) and finally, Daniel Quintero, with 144,677 votes (6.14%).
(Besides: The trade relationship between Canada and the US in crisis due to Trump’s tariffs).
Card of the Historical Pact
Within Petrism there is the intention that Iván Cepeda be part of the broad front that would be defined in March 2026, where he would confront figures such as Roy Barreras. However, there is still no complete clarity on whether or not Cepeda is authorized to participate in that process.
The great unknown that remains regarding the figure of senator is whether he will be able to get votes beyond the left, since some sectors see him as radical and it is clear that neither the left nor the right will be able to win the presidency alone, so they will need alliances with other spectrums.
