Some weeks ago the Mayor of Medellin, Daniel Quinterowas suspended by the Attorney General’s Office after publishing a video in which the president appears inside a truck, holding a gear lever and moving it to the left.

The entity initiated an investigation for “the alleged and repeated involvement in political activities and controversies“As a result of this, Quintero is making a ‘cow’ of 200 million pesos to be able to pay a lawyer and recover his position in the mayor’s office.
How much does Quintero earn as mayor?
According to the law, Medellin is categorized as special characterl, according to article 6 of Law 136 of 1994. This implies that their salary is different from that of the other leaders in the country.
In this case, Quintero earns monthly 18,755,197 pesos.
He began to receive this salary in 2022. Before, his salary corresponded to the provisions of article 153 of Decree Law 2106 of 2019: “As of January 1, 2022 and according to the categorization established in Law 617 of 2000, modified by Law 1551 of 2012, the maximum monthly salary limit that the Municipal and District Councils must take into account to establish the monthly salary of the respective mayor will be: special, $18,755,197; first, $15,891,504; second, $11,486,730; third, $9,214,188; fourth, $7,708,054; fifth, $6,207,953; and sixth, $4,690,340”, indicates article 3 of Decree 462 of 2022“.
Now, in the rest of the countrydecree 980 of 2021, stipulates that both governors and mayors have a monthly salary limit. In the case of mayors, it depends on the category of the municipality. The sixth category earns 4,690,340 Colombian pesos and the first category 15,891,504 Colombian pesos.

In the case of Bogotá, for example, the salary limit is 18 million Colombian pesos.
