Taking advantage of the fact that he was surrounded by representatives of African countries, a delegate from Russia and the Palestinian activist Leila Khaled, Daniel Ortega used his stage to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the triumph of the Sandinista revolution to rant, once again, against “imperialism and the powers.”
Although he tried to focus his speech on political situations that would be more interesting to his visitors than to Nicaraguans, Ortega forced the connection between the conflicts in Africa and the role of the United States.
In order to maintain his anti-American diatribe, the Sandinista tyrant had to resort to the conflict between the terrorist group Hamas, from the Gaza Strip, in Palestine, and the State of Israel.
«And the rulers of the State of Israel say it clearly, they say it clearly, that they want the Palestinian State to disappear. They say it without any shame… What do the Israeli authorities say? That the Palestinian State should not exist, that it should disappear because it is a threat to Israel. If we go with that philosophy, we should ask for the disappearance of the State of the United States, “The first one that should disappear is that State, which is the biggest criminal that humanity has,” Ortega grumbled.
Later, he expanded his list of objectives to include “disappearance.” “Let the powers disappear, let NATO disappear, and then we will have a little more peace, a little more security in the world,” shouted the Nicaraguan dictator, who only showed himself supported by these countries with which he has strengthened ties in recent months, while from the American continent he only had the support of a delegate from the Cuban dictatorship and the foreign minister of Venezuela.
Strange defense of “immigrants”
As usual, Ortega rambled on about meaningless topics and in his attempt to make them seem important, he latched onto one that has historically been used by politicians around the world to gain benefits: migration.
As if to give context to this strange defense of immigrants, the Sandinista dictator mentioned, as he repeats every time he appears in public, British colonization in North America. He spoke of slavery in the South of the United States and asked who the Europeans asked for permission to “invade” the territories that are now the United States and Canada.

“They just decided to go there, start by killing the indigenous population and then occupy the lands, and then grow in wealth and then develop that slave labor force to exploit especially in the southern United States, where there was slavery,” he said.
“The Yankees and the Europeans have become enemies of immigrants (…) This war they have against immigrants goes against the rights of the human species, the right of the human species to be able to move anywhere on earth, and it is a right that they, the powers, have denied them,” he said.
He assumes the defense of the same migrants he exploits
That rant of supposed defense of immigrants occurs, coincidentally, just when high officials of the United States government have accused him of squeeze illegal migrantswho have been allowed to enter the country in exchange for fees, and then have been pushed to take the land route to the north.
The US government has already expressed its concern about the permissiveness of the Managua dictatorship with regard to charter flights that transport migrants from various countries in the region, and now from other continents, who seek to reach the borders with the US, where a real crisis is taking place, resulting in kidnappings, deaths and suffering among irregular travelers.
In the report “A Foreign Policy Problem: Ten Facts About Migration to the United States,” prepared by the Nicaraguan researcher Manuel Orozco, of the organism Inter-American Dialogue, It is clear that Nicaraguan dictators Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, who constantly attack the US government, have turned migration into a “weapon” against the US.
Between July 2023 and January 2024 alone, the Nicaraguan regime has allowed at least 1,145 charter flights from Haiti, Cuba, Suriname, Curacao, and Venezuela to arrive in the country, and in recent weeks, flights from Africa and Asia, all loaded with irregular migrants who land in Managua and then continue their journey north to reach the southern border of the United States.
The Department of Homeland Security identified the Managua dictatorship as part of the migrant trafficking network He said that “the actions of the Nicaraguan government are a cause for grave concern” because Ortega and Murillo “have implemented permissive immigration policies, which have created opportunities for migrant trafficking networks to exploit” irregular travelers.
