Daniel García’s mother affirms that his arrest is not an isolated case. That same day, another 12 people were arrested near the demonstration in the Plaza de la República in Maracaibo, including “uAn older man who has cancer
On January 9, the day that the opposition leader, María Corina Machado, called for nationwide demonstrations to demand the victory of Edmundo González in the presidential elections on July 28, Daniel García was arrested near the Plaza de la República in Maracaibo, Zulia state. His family was able to check the place of confinement, but no one has been able to see it. His mother, Jenny Morillo, denounces irregularities in the process and demands his release.
García was apprehended by National Guard (GN) officials while he was leaving the protest. His relatives learned that he had already been presented in court and that He is accused of obstruction of public roads, disorderly conduct, instigation of hatred and terrorism.. However, witnesses said that the young man was insisting other protesters to leave calmly, without showing any violent acts or any type of disorder.
Daniel Garcia He is being held in a National Guard command on El Milagro Avenue in Maracaibo, but no one has been able to visit him or corroborate his state of health: «No one has been able to talk to him. We only know that he is there and the food is delivered,” his mother assures SuchWhich.
«My son is a good person. It is not fair that they accuse him of being a terrorist. I am a mother asking for help for her son. “Free him, he is innocent.”

García is a social worker at Hospital General del Sur and coordinator of Vente Venezuela in the Manuel Dagnino parish. She is 28 years old and has a baby who will soon be two years old. Since he was arrested, his wife spends her days sitting on a sidewalk in front of the GN command, “waiting for them to let him see him or whatever,” says Jenny Morillo.
Daniel García’s mother insists that the arrest could be linked to his political affiliation with Vente Venezuela, a political organization led by María Corina Machado, but adds: “He is not an important person in politics, he only supports one party, but heIn Venezuela, thinking differently is a sin. “I ask for justice and the release of my son because he is innocent, he is not a terrorist,” he claims.
To date, Vente Venezuela has 75 members of its organization detained and 16 released, for a total of 91 persecuted for political reasons.

Morillo cries and her voice chokes while talking about her son’s case, because her anguish grows greater because she and her other two children live abroad. They sought private defense for García, but the lawyers were prevented from accessing the National Guard command last Saturday, January 11, even though they were made to wait for hours. They were then informed that the case was assigned to public defenders, a decision that the mother condemns: “They are hand-picked lawyers, supporters of the Government,” she denounces.
The case of Daniel García will be transferred to Caracas due to the nature of the charges against him, which represents an additional obstacle for the family, who does not have resources nor knows anyone in the capital: “It is a trip of about 12 hours by bus. We don’t have anyone in Caracas,” says the young man’s mother.
Terrorism courts are only in Caracas. The Organic Law against Organized Crime and Financing of Terrorism punishes this crime with imprisonment of 25 to 30 years and the crime of financing terrorism with imprisonment of 15 to 25 years.
García’s relatives fear that in the detention center he will get sick and his health will become complicated. The mother details that when she was seven years old, she had a splenectomy (removal of the spleen), which is why she is at greater risk of contracting infections: “If you get pneumonia or the flu, it can turn into something more.” serious and he has already been sick because of it,” explains Jenny Morillo.
Daniel García’s mother insists on saying that her son does not represent any danger, that he has not committed any crime and that in his community he is known for always helping people in vulnerable situations.
Jenny Morillo affirms that García’s arrest is not an isolated case and that that same day another 12 people were arrested near the demonstration, including “u“an older man who has cancer.” As they have learned, “everyone remains isolated in a room because it is a women’s commando.”
Daniel García’s family demands his release, despite fear of reprisals: «“I am not going to stop making noise to demand the freedom of my son,” says Jenny Morillo.
