the minister Daniel Barraganwho yesterday announced his resignation from the post, today ruled out the rumors that his departure was due to an alleged coup attempt to close Congress.
“They are speculations, I reject that refrain from the weekend, there is nothing of a coup d’étatthere were issues about the supreme decree to see if we continue or not, my idea was that the Armed Forces not expose themselves to citizen security, they wanted there to be more soldiers in citizen security”, he asserted.
“I suppose that the next few hours, the new minister will be sworn in, let’s not talk about support, I tell him that I lead a team, and the Armed Forces fulfill their mission,” added.

The minister’s resignation
Daniel Barragán presented his irrevocable resignation as Defense Minister last Saturday, December 3, for “strictly personal” reasons.
In the letter addressed to President Pedro Castillo, Barragán thanked the head of state for having given him the opportunity to serve the country.
“I express my deep gratitude to the head of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, to the general commanders of the Air Force, Navy, Army of Peru; and military and civilian personnel from the Defense sector, for their support and teamwork to achieve the strategic objectives of the sector”, points to the letter posted on his official Twitter account.
Barragán Coloma took office as Defense Minister on September 23 of this year, replacing Richard Tineo, who now heads the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. He was ratified in this role at the end of November to form part of the Ministerial Cabinet led by Betssy Chávez.
