February 21, 2008, is preserved as an important date for the urban reggae genre, because on that date the considered “king of the ghetto” died. We refer to Alonso David Blackwood Drakes, better known as Danger Man.
It was after 11:00 at night when the reguesero went to the house of his cousin, Oscar De Lucas Herrero, located in La Riviera, Don Bosco, on 7C street, to make some musical arrangements and to refine details of what would be his website, however, he never managed to enter the house because an unknown person hit Blackwood with five shots.
The bullet impacts managed to land two in the chest, head, neck and abdomen, after shooting him the murderer fled the scene without anyone being able to identify who the shooter was. to this day the motives for the artist’s murder are unknown.
Danger Man had a long artistic career combined with rivalries with other artists from the backyard, for 18 years he managed to position himself as the “king of the ghetto”, founding the Clan Scaredem Crew where he recorded individual songs and duets with other exponents of the urban genre such as Japannese who even today he pays posthumous tributes to him in his presentations.
In his last song, “For my soldiers”, Danger Man seemed to say goodbye to family, friends and fans because his lyrics “To my soldiers of the Scare Dem Crew, who go 100% to their Crew, if I die, I want them to take the flag to the end»; He also said “and if the day comes when I disappear musically or spiritually, I hope they carry the flag to the end.”
Another controversial fact that it seems that “the King” knew that his death was approaching was the cover of that same album that he released in mid-2007 where Danger Man was shown on the cover posing in front of a tombstone that said: “RIP Danger Man ».
