The Undersecretary General of the Cambio Democrático party, Dana Castañeda, in an interview with Radio Panama, referred to the suspension of the electoral subsidy, the internal elections of the party where she considers that the bases of the party do not support the current president Rómulo Roux.
“The president of the party and the current board of directors, in their vast majority, have decided to postpone the times established in decrees 13 and 19 that the Electoral Tribunal has issued to regulate these internal activities of political parties, in fact, democratic change is the only party that has not been able to comply in a timely manner with this regulation,” said Castañeda
On February 1, the suspension of the electoral subsidy to Cambio Democrático was announced through the General Secretariat, he notified Rómulo A. Roux M; in his capacity as president and legal representative of the CD, the decision adopted in the Plenary Agreement issued by the Magistrates of the Electoral Tribunal, based on article 111, numeral 4 of the Electoral Code.
“Deputy Rony Araúz, the organization secretary of the party, sent a note requesting an extension due to force majeure, when we all know that the extension due to force majeure was due to a pandemic and it has already passed, the party should have submitted an internal exercise to let the leadership flow and we could renew our body, the TE denies that request and in January 2023 the party leadership had to be renewed ”, indicated Castañeda.
Regarding the support that Rómulo Roux has within the Cambio Democrático party, Castañeda said “the members of the party feel that Rómulo Roux no longer represents us and in this way we feel that the party must establish an alliance that guarantees victory in 2024, otherwise Otherwise we are going to disappear as a political party, when we talk to people they tell us that they want an alliance with Ricardo Martinelli, our bases do not support Rómulo Roux”.
