The Central de Lecherías Asociadas de Panamá denounced economic losses in the dairy sector due to the rise in fuel and supplies as a result of international conflicts.
Faced with this situation, the milkmen of this union asked the government to seek solutions together since they perceive daily losses and despite this they must continue to pay their banking, mercantile and labor obligations.
They highlighted that the agricultural, livestock, and transportation sectors no longer have the funds to deal with these losses and are more affected because they continue to sell their products at the same price, but the cost of inputs has increased.
The economic losses, which mainly affect micro, small and medium producers of low-volume milk, since they are receiving between 6 and 11 cents less payment for each liter of milk.
The union assured that if there is no solution soon, the country’s food security is in danger, “since it cannot be produced with costs above the sale prices.”
The dairymen ask to meet with more authorities with a view to solving the economic infeasibility of the agricultural activity and in this way solve those commitments that the producers maintain with different entities.
