Daily average of homicides is the highest of the last 7 governments

“The prison dominates the street”said the president José Jerí during a search. “They operate 24 hours a day from prison,” he added. This week he indicated that “Ten years had to pass for a Government to make firm decisions in the fight against crimeOn Tuesday, however, he admitted that the homicide figures have not decreased in the country and that the government’s priority is to stop the increase in violence.

And, despite the fact that many ringleaders are behind bars, criminal organizations continue to be active and accumulate crimes on the streets. Nothing stops them.

Meanwhile, neighbors and relatives of the victims do not tire of demanding justice with two clear and graphic slogans:“Peru bleeds”and“We want peace.”

So far during the government of President José Jerí, there have been 306 homicides nationwide, according to the data contained in the latest report of the National Death System (Sinadef), from October 10 to December 4.

Besides, there are 35 death records violent deaths caused by a firearm projectile (PAF), but which nevertheless appear as ‘ignored’, that is, they do not have a classification of type of death.

The worrying thing is that the daily average homicides has increased to 5.56 during the current Government (and still with records to update). Two weeks ago it was 5.33 and a week ago it was 5.41, says data analyst, engineer Juan Carbajal.

The specialist affirms that during the government of the former president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski The daily average of homicides, registered in Sinadef, was 1.88, with Martin Vizcarra rose to 2.87, while in the management of Manuel Merino the figure was 2.67.

Likewise, in the regime of Francisco Sagasti daily homicides increased to 3.63, with Pedro Castillo rose to 4.22 and, finally, with Dina Boluartethe average was 5.25.

None of the measures decreed by government authorities to drastically reduce highly harmful violence are working, while, El Salvador, for example, take 283 days without homicides so far in 2025.

That is the highest historical record in that country, exceeding 280 days without homicides in 2024. And it is on its way to the lowest annual historical record of homicides in the last 32 years.

Last Thursday night, a peaceful area of Miraflores was interrupted by a murder. A man of foreign nationality appeared lifeless near the shopping center Larcomar. The body had 14 bullet holes.

This crime generated alarm among residents and tourists who come to this place where no similar incident had occurred.

Just as surprising was the homicide of Sergio Bolaños Sarmiento (29), accused of being a former member of the criminal organization The Octopuses of Trujillo. It happened on the night of Sunday, November 30 in Jesus Mary, two blocks from José Jerí’s residence, in Jesús María.

The area seemed impregnable to crime due to the supposedly extreme security measures. The general commander of the National Police of Peru (PNP), Oscar Arriolatold the press that Bolaños tried to escape through said route after being attacked by two individuals who intercepted him on a motorcycle.

only in Metropolitan Limaduring 40 days in a state of emergency (10/22 to 11/30), 74 homicidesaccording to Sinadef.

However, in the previous 40 days without a state of emergency (09/12 to 10/21), there were 72 homicides, according to official government records, indicates Carbajal.

In relation to the medium used in the recorded acts of highly harmful violence, the document reveals the high incidence of firearmswhich is more or less permanent data.

From October 10 to December 3, when homicides totaled 295 during the current Government, Sinadef reported that 216 of these crimes had been caused by firearm projectiles.

This week, President José Jerí surprised by stating that next week a group of foreign experts in citizen security will arrive in Peru as part of the process of creating a new National Citizen Security Plan.

He explained that they will analyze the Peruvian reality and, based on the information provided by the government, will make suggestions for the formulation of a comprehensive strategy. Despite the announcement, the president did not say who would arrive in Peru, nor did he say how many people were invited by his government.
