In the last hours it was learned that the Superior Court of Liquidations of Panama rejected a habeas corpus appeal that at the time was presented by the lawyer of the accountant Maya Cikurel, partner of the Minister of Education and Culture, Pablo da Silveira, to separate her from the Odebrecht case , and declared his detention legal for the crime “against the economic order, in the form of money laundering.”
The Panamanian Prosecutor’s Office intends to determine the possible link between Cikurel and “Arcadex Corporation”, a company created in Belize and for which it is suspected that Odebrecht -through Uruguay- paid bribes to high-ranking officials of the Brazilian government and the region, including the former president of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli.
“I don’t speak in public”
This Monday, within the framework of an event for the 190th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s visit to Uruguay, Minister Pablo da Silveira was consulted by the press about his partner’s case, but he said that he would not do so in public.
“You know that I don’t talk about it in public. In any case, we’ll talk about something later. But it is not a fact to speak in public”, Pablo da Silveira limited himself to saying to the press.
