From November 14 to 18 are Cyber Days and within the framework of the Christmas festivities as World Cup players, many Peruvians feel the enthusiasm of buying various products. However, it is necessary to take into account several aspects to avoid fraud and online scams.
In order to avoid fraud, Jaime Montenegro, e-commerce manager of the Lima Chamber of Commerce, points out five recommendations to make a purchase online safely.
Use a secure connection
To enter your personal data and finalize your purchase online, use a secure and private internet connection from work or home.
Public Wi-Fi networks, for example, in a shopping center or a cafe, are not an alternative because it is unknown if they can be intervened by a cybercriminal to steal information. On the other hand, it is also of vital importance that the technological device with which you will buy has a licensed antivirus.
Verify that you have a Digital Security Certificate
The most practical way to verify is by looking at a small padlock in the upper left of the screen. This image indicates that the portal is secure.
Another way to check is by the URL, if it starts with https://www…, the letter ‘s’ is the most importantbecause it indicates that the website uses a security certificate.
Having a certified portal and providing you as a consumer with the security you need to make your purchase online is a requirement for all official Cyber Days companies.
Do not save payment details
When you make a purchase and pay with the card or platforms such as PayPal, the option to save the data for a future purchase may appear. The recommendation is not to store this information because in the future there could be a vulnerability.
Check the available payment methods, costs and shipping time
In addition to knowing the cost of the product, you should also know the cost of shipping and the time in which you will receive the product before completing the online purchase.
Shipping times and costs vary according to the geographic locations of the company and the client. Certified e-Commerces present alternative card payment options (credit or debit).
Check that the portal has a Virtual Claims Book
Make sure that the portal has a Complaints Book, in a visible area of its website. This is a mandatory requirement for Peruvian ecommerce portals.
If there is a Complaints Book, you will have the certainty that, if any problem arises with the service received, you can file said complaint and go to Indecopi if necessary.
