The sunsets in the Cuyabeno They are different. As the sun slowly sets, the sound of the water mixes with the breeze hitting the leaves and the sound of monkeys, birds and other species that live within this Amazonian paradise.

Jaime David Rodríguez, director of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Cuyabeno, details that before the pandemic, 90% of the people who visited the reserve were foreign.
On average, they had 19,000 tourists per year, but with the pandemic, visits dropped to an average of 300 tourists per month. “That is why we want to compensate with the sightseeing local, that visitors from the country come ”, says Rodríguez.
The Cuyabeno canton is home to 8,200 people who, for the most part, make a living from tourism, so businessmen and entrepreneurs, together with the Municipality, have generated policies of good practices to attract the visitors.
Among the most biodiverse in the world
Cuyabeno is one of the most biodiverse territories on the planet, as it is home to about 12,000 species of animals and plants. To enter this paradisiacal destination you have to go by boat for three hours, from the ‘Aguas Negras’ parish known as ‘the gateway to Cuyabeno’.

Once this experience has been lived, it is time to enter the reservation. Within a few minutes of being in the boat it is common to see the so-called squirrel monkeys, also called pocket monkeys (for being very small), that jump from branch to branch, between trees that reach 50 meters in height.
Hopefully the tourists they will be able to meet the imposing harpy eagle and, upon reaching one of its 14 lagoons you can see the pink dolphins jump, before sunset falls.

Gastronomy and ancestry
Before the pandemic, the communities had a sustainable tourism system. Now they take it up little by little, welcoming tourists with warmth and quality. An example of this is the Tarabeayá community, of nationality Siona.
