Aduanas detecta centenares de municiones y millones de cigarrillos en contrabando en Haina

The discovery was 3,020,000 cigarettes, and 6,027 units of ammunition of different calibers.

Officials from the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) detected, in an import container in the port of Haina, contraband that totaled about 3,020,000 cigarettes.

The importation with false declaration of Capital brand cigarettes sought to evade the payment of RD$16,698,082 in taxes to the Dominican State through Customs.

In that same container, the officers also found some 6,027 units of ammunition of calibers 9, 12, 16 and 20 millimeters.

The import container with the contraband came from Brooklyn, New York, United States and had as manifest merchandise: “Various effects packages, household items and PPE.”

Investigations into this case remain ongoing and once concluded they will be presented to the judicial authorities.

The General Directorate of Customs reaffirms its permanent commitment to the fight against customs illegalities and strict compliance with Customs Law No. 168-21.

DGA confirms that this discovery is a reflection of the constant fight against smuggling, especially during these festive periods, and work will continue to maintain the safety and well-being of legal trade.
