MIAMI, United States. — The General Customs of the Republic (AGR) announced this Thursday new “rules for non-commercial imports”, carried out by passengers entering Cuba.

The regulations will allow an increase in the amount of imported items, including computers, tablets, tires and vehicle rims.

According to the authorities, this is a relaxation of imports, which includes, among others, the increase from 10 kg to 20 kg of the import limit through shipments, as well as the decrease in the value of the imported kilogram from 20 USD to $10.

According to the new customs regulations, published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cuba, 3 kg will be free of payment for the articles to which the value-weight is applied. Likewise, the payment of the customs tax will be reduced by 70%.

The General Customs of the Republic made it clear that the non-commercial importation to be carried out by natural persons are those that they carry out occasionally for their personal, family or household use, through luggage, shipments, household goods or other authorized cargo.

Similarly, the document published in the Gazette establishes a “List of Reference Values” for some of the products that natural persons bring by any means.

The Resolution, which was announced in recent days by the Minister of Economy of the Cuban regime, Alexander Gil Fernandezin the National Assembly of People’s Power, will enter into force as of August 15, 2022.

As part of the new regulations, a new provision of the Island’s Ministry of Finance and Prices was also announced, which will eliminate the payment of part of the Customs Tax on shipments made by air, sea and postal routes.

“Individuals who receive non-commercial air, sea, postal and courier shipments in the national territory are exempt from paying Customs Tax for the first thirty US dollars (30.00 USD) of the value or its equivalent weight, up to three kilograms (3 kg) of the shipment, in the value/weight ratio established by the General Customs of the Republic”, indicates the new ministerial circular.
