Customs and Panama sign agreement in the fight against illegal acts

The general director of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, and the head of the National Customs Authority (ANA) of Panama, Soraya Valdivieso, signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation and exchange of information in customs matters, which will allow both countries, work together in the fight against illegal acts and unfair competition.

The signed pact includes: the exchange of information and the necessary consultations to ensure the correct application of their respective customs legislation, facilitate trade, prevent, investigate and repress customs infractions or illegalities, as well as reduce risk levels in the chain. international trade logistics.

“It is an essential commitment of all customs officials in the world to pursue these scourges, study them, compare them, follow-up on them so that, every day, we can establish a culture of compliance, transparency and fair trade,” director of the DGA.

He indicated that the culture of transparency, commitment and compliance cannot be an exclusive issue for public servants, since the tax evader is as corrupt as the public official who embezzles funds.
While Valdivieso expressed that it is a great honor for the entity he represents to be signing the memorandum of understanding, which serves to strengthen ties and mutual cooperation between both countries and their customs.

«With this, we send a clear message to the criminal organizations of illicit trade and unfair competition: we are together in this fight to protect the interests of our nations and regional security. There is no other way to do it than together,” he exclaimed.

With this signed pact, the customs authorities of both nations undertake to cooperate in the field of information for the application of legislation, exchange of information and information related to customs infractions or illegalities.
