Last Tuesday night, a truck that was transporting several supporters of a political party lost its way and overturned on a slope on the road to Lares in the province of Calca – Cusco.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m.when the vehicle with license plate V1M-936 left the track near the peasant community of Choquecanchafalling to a depth of about 50 meters, leaving four dead and twenty wounded so far, several of them seriously.
Members of the Police and Fire Department arrived at the scene, who helped the victims by transferring them to the health center in the area, being the most serious referred to different nosocomios of the Imperial City.
According to the sub-prefect of Lares, Aurelio Yupanqui, supporters belonged to the Peru Libre political party and they were heading to the end of their group’s campaign in the district of Lares.
Police sources indicated that the fatalities were preliminarily identified as: Hermitaño Chávez (53), Victoriano Quispe (60), Tomasa Huamán (60) and Marisol Ocon (14).
The Police investigate a possible carelessness of the driver, who when getting out of his vehicle would not have activated the handbrake, advancing the unit without control until leaving the track, this theory will be corroborated or discarded as the investigations progress.
