The cultural heritage of the Historical Capital of Peru reaches a new historical milestone. The Sacsayhuamán Archaeological Park and the Temple of San Pedro Apóstol de Andahuaylillas were recognized with ‘Hierarchy 4’, the highest tourist distinction granted by the State through the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism.
It should be noted that the Sacsayhuamán National Archaeological Park has been distinguished for its exceptional value as the maximum expression of Inca engineering and architecture, as well as for its spiritual, cultural and symbolic importance for the country. The aforementioned ancestral site, the main stage of Inti Raymi, constitutes a fundamental axis of regional identity and pride, in addition to being a key driver of cultural and educational tourism.
For its part, the Temple of San Pedro Apóstol de Andahuaylillas, known as the ‘Sistine Chapel of America’, It has been recognized for its extraordinary artistic and historical value as one of the greatest expressions of the Andean baroque. Its enhancement strengthens cultural and religious tourism and directly benefits the population of the district and the southern tourist circuits.
These recognitions not only highlight the historical and cultural wealth of the Cusco region, but also have a direct social impact by promoting sustainable tourism, energizing the local economy and strengthen the employment of hundreds of families linked to activities such as commerce, crafts, transportation, gastronomy and tourist services.

During his speech, the head of Gercetur Cusco, Rosendo Baca, highlighted that ‘Hierarchy 4’ represents a tool of inclusion and progress for communities. “Each recognition of Cusco’s heritage translates into more opportunities for our people, especially for the communities that care for and live from these historical spaces. Tourism development must always go hand in hand with social well-being,” he pointed out.
With the new recognitions, The Cusco region has five tourist resources with ‘Hierarchy 4’, at the same level as the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.
