Cusco: Mining protest paralyzes southern mining corridor in Colquemarca

Informal miners from Colquemarca, Chamaca and Santo Tomás, in the Cusco province of Chumbivilcas, keep a strategic section of the southern mining corridor blocked as part of the national strike called by unions in the sector.

The measure, which has been in place for several days, seeks to pressure the Government to address their demands regarding formalization, working conditions and environmental aspects.

According to the portal HBA News, The blockade has paralyzed the transit of heavy-duty vehicles, industrial supplies and personnel linked to formal mining operations in the area.

Regional authorities warn that if the protest continues, the economic impact will be increasingly severe.
