After the arrest of a woman, accused of savagely beating her seven-year-old stepson, the Cuzco Judiciary decided to give her preventive detention for a period of six months, to be investigated for the alleged crime of child abuse, behind bars.
Carmen Rodríguez (35) was recently arrested in the Cusco district of San Jerónimoafter being accused by her neighbors of mistreating the minor with the initials JNG Son of her current partner, with whom she lived in a house.
According to the police report, the minor had various injuries all over his body, and was taken to the San Jerónimo Health Center, from where he had to be referred to Adolfo Guevara Hospital – EsSalud due to the seriousness of his injuries.
Due to the seriousness of the case, the prosecutor in charge, Doris Ríos, of the Specialized Prosecutor for Violence Against Women and Members of the Family Group, decided to request preventive detention for the accusedan initiative that was endorsed by the Judiciary.
Thus, the accused will be transferred to the Qenccoro Women’s Prison of Cusco in the following hours, while the minor continues to be hospitalized, where he cannot communicate fluently due to the beating he would have suffered.
It is not ruled out to include the father of the minor in the complaint for child abuse, In addition, there would already be another complaint for a similar event that occurred in 2019.
