Located just one hour from Valledupar, this municipality, of just over 15,000 inhabitants according to data from its mayor’s office, stands out not only by its curious name, but also for its kind people, its vallenata culture and its rural atmosphere. Why is it called distraction?
His story goes back to the nineteenth century, when a man named Antonio María Vidal decided to build a house in this area as a refuge to rest and get away from day -to -day obligations. That place called “the distraction.” With the passage of time, more people began to settle around the house, and the name became popular until becoming the officer of the municipality, founded in 1845.
Distraction is not only striking name, it is also a destination with mountain landscapes, valleys and biodiversity that attracts both visitors and researchers. It is located five minutes from Fonseca, 20 minutes from San Juan del Cesar, at an hour and a quarter of Valledupar, two hours from Riohacha already about 16 hours by road from Bogotá.
