Cuca leaves Corinthians after pressure over a case of sexual abuse

The technician of corinthians, Alexi Stival ‘Cuca’, He resigned from his post at dawn this Thursday, barely a week after assuming it, accused of leading a case of sexual abuse in the eighties. “I am leaving at this moment and it was not what I wanted, because you wait a lifetime to be here. It is a request from my family and tomorrow I will be home,” Cuca said at a press conference, already at dawn, after the match for the Brazil Cup against Remo.

The coach said that in his short week of work at Corinthians he went through “very heavy, nightmare days” and that he did not “expect the avalanche of things that happened a long time ago and resurfaced as if they were from today.”

Corinthians, for its part, announced on its Twitter profile that the coach “left command of the team after a request from the family to resolve particular issues.” However, after the victory over Remo (2-0) and the classification in the definition by penalties from the penalty spot for the round of 16 of the Brazil Cup, the president of the club, Duilio Monteiro, told reporters that Cuca he was being “butchered.”

On Monday, the entire squad of the women’s professional team joined the protests against the coach, with a statement in which the players appealed to Corinthians’ “democratic tradition” and the “feminism” that the club boasts.

A group of fans of the second most popular club in the country had already protested last Friday at the team’s training center and some of the brave bars took to social networks to show their disagreement with the hiring.

Cuca, who directed Corinthians for the first time, is a 59-year-old coach who has directed twenty first division teams in the last 25 years, without almost anyone having dusted off the old case of sexual abuse.

The events occurred in Bern during a tour of the Guild

The events occurred in Berne during a Guild tour of Switzerland. Cuca and three other players were detained for a month in Switzerland accused of having had group sex with a 13-year-old girl at the concentration hotel.

After paying a bail, the footballers were released on probation and returned to Brazil. Two years later, Cuca, who always denied that the abuses took place, was sentenced to 15 months in prison on the charge of indecent assault with the use of violence, but he never served his sentence.

During his presentation with Corinthians, Cuca did not shy away from the subject, he again denied the facts and, as proof that there was no case pending against him, he pointed out that when he played for Spanish Valladolid in 1990 “nothing happened”, that is, not was extradited.

After the statement, the Swiss lawyer Willi Egloff, who represented the victim, denied part of Cuca’s version in an interview with the Brazilian portal UOL and now the coach has announced that he will prosecute the European jurist for his statements. “I hired two lawyers to do the job that I couldn’t do (clear his name). Now it will be done. Whoever speaks things that they shouldn’t and whoever judges can also be judged,” said the coach.

With Cuca on the bench, Corinthians lost 3-1 against Goiás at the start of the Brazilian league and then beat Remo 2-0 in the Brazilian Cup, but due to the defeat in Belém de Pará (2-0), the match was decided on penalties
